Testament of Youth was an account of the formative years of a host of stars including Adam Ant. It often threw up some surprising facts, in Adam’s case, a deep rooted love of bowls and his grief over losing his pet budgie. Testament of Youth, set mainly during the First World War, was the autobiography of Vera Ellen, mother of the former Labour MP, Shirley Williams.
Stiff Little Fingers’ Jake Burns admitted he hated doing sports at school and wrote a whole series of sick notes. Because he went to school in Belfast during the troubles, everyone would get sent home if there was a bomb scare so pupils started making false bombs out of biscuit tins!
Nearly everyone who appeared in Testament of Youth hated school and Stray Cat Bryan Setzer was no exception. He hardly ever went and the truant officer was always knocking on his front door. He was eventually expelled when he was 15.
