A ridiculously young looking Dave Gahan recounted the last seven days of his life as he relaxed in the sunshine outside the Flexipop! offices in the summer of 1982. We just happened to have a few bananas on hand as props but then it all got out of hand and the Great Banana Saga was born. Fans started throwing bananas on stage at Depeche Mode gigs for a long time after the interview.

A stunning illustration by Bryan Talbot took Adam’s Working Week into another dimension in Flexipop! issue 4 March 1981. Adam was always honest and candid in interviews, as this article reveals. There was a certain naivety about him that was both admirable and charming.

Jake Burns liked more than a few stiff ones to get him through the week, as this alcohol-drenched Welcome to the Working Week revealed in the winter of ‘82. Stiff Little Fingers were hugely popular, more so than many people realised. The photo was taken in a pub (where else?) just off Oxford Street.
